Conditional Admission Program

If you have a strong record of academic achievement but do not yet meet the UBC English Language Admission Standard, you may be eligible for conditional admission to a degree program at UBC's Vancouver campus.

As a conditionally admitted UBC student, you are accepted into your chosen undergraduate or graduate program on the condition that you develop your academic English to the required standard through successful completion of the English for Academic Purposes program. In order to be considered as a conditionally admitted student, you must first apply to the UBC degree program and campus of your choice (see sections below). You can not apply to this program through the English Language Institute.

Once you have been offered conditional admission to a UBC degree program, you will register for one of the following:

  • 16-week sessions scheduled to begin in January, May or August/September
  • 8-week accelerated session scheduled to begin in July

You must achieve at least 75% in each of your courses in order to meet UBC’s conditional admission requirements and proceed into your degree program. (Please note, you have up to 12 months to meet these requirements.)

Once you have successfully completed English for Academic Purposes, you can proceed into your degree program.
