Global Citizenship through English (GCE) gives you full-time English language training in a 3- or 4-week program. Students will have classes all day from Monday to Thursday, with a half day of classes on Friday.
Learner-centered and task-based activities allow you to collaborate with other participants under the direction of experienced language teachers. Classes provide language instruction and practice, along with opportunities to explore inspiring themes through group projects, lectures, discussions, presentations, guest speakers and educational outings.
Levels Covered in the Program
The program can accommodate upper elementary to advanced levels; however, class composition is based on the number of registrants.
Placement and Assessment
The ELI placement test is done online before the start of the session and will determine your level. Assessment is based on attendance, participation and achievement.
Certificates
At the end of the GCE program, the English Language Institute issues a certificate.
Student Life
What takes place in the English language classroom is just the beginning of the learning experience at the UBC ELI. Our extensive program of social and cultural activities is just one of the special features that make the UBC ELI an exceptional place to learn English. You will meet UBC students, also known as Cultural Assistants (CAs), who will help you adjust to campus life and Canadian culture through fun activities and events. To find out what’s going on and to read up on your CAs visit our Student Life site.
