Sociocultural Program

Your ELI experience goes beyond the classroom!

The lessons you learn outside the classroom are equally as important as the ones you learn within it.

The ELI’s Sociocultural Program is part of our inclusive and hands-on approach to learning. It gives you a chance to participate in language and intercultural exchanges beyond the classroom with our Cultural Assistants who are current UBC students. We offer a range of extracurricular activities that support your language growth and strengthen your connections to UBC and our local communities.

Be a part of UBC special events during Homecoming and the Intergenerational March. Support UBC athletes at games and tournaments. Contribute to your community by becoming a volunteer. Join your classmates in cooking, crafting, and other lunch time activities. Discover local places of interest and visit Steveston, Lonsdale Quay or the Bill Reid Gallery of Northwest Coast Art. Connect with nature and go hiking in Pacific Spirit Park, Deep Cove or on the local beaches.
