Student Life

What takes place in the classroom is just the beginning of the learning experience at EXPLORE. Our sociocultural activities program is just one of the special features that make the ELI an exceptional place to learn English.

You will meet UBC students, known as cultural assistants (CAs), who will help you adjust to campus life and introduce you to Vancouver through fun and interesting activities and events. To find out what's going on or to read up on your CAs, visit our Sociocultural Program page.

Student Accommodation
All EXPLORE students will be placed in homestays near the UBC campus. Homestay provides students with the opportunity to live with a local family and practice their English skills in a non-academic setting. As a thriving multicultural city, Vancouver homestays come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Our homestays have been thoroughly vetted and approved by our Homestay Department and are advised on how to support students during their stay. For more information about living in a UBC homestay please read the Student Homestay Handbook.
