English for Academic Purposes – ON CAMPUS
Gain the English-Language Skills & Confidence to Succeed
English for Academic Purposes is designed to give you the English-language skills and confidence to succeed in an academic setting while also helping you to understand the North American classroom culture of universities and colleges.
This program is for students who are at an intermediate or advanced level of English and want to develop their academic reading, writing, speaking and listening skills.
The program is multi-level so you can progress each term to the next level! It is designed to continue to challenge you as your English skills improve.
This program meets UBC’s English Language Admission Standard (Certificate in English Language) with successful completion of two courses at the 600 level.
Upon completion of each 8-week program you will receive a certificate and transcript.
Who It’s For
English for Academic Purposes is for students who want to develop their academic writing, reading, speaking, and listening skills. Many students in this program are hoping to study at a university where English is the language of instruction.
The program lines-up with the UBC academic calendar to allow for an easy transition for students starting a UBC degree program.

Get extra help in optional Friday workshops with skills like pronunciation or grammar. You can also join lectures and conversation groups for extra practice. Workshops run on Fridays from 10:00am–12:00pm.

How to Apply
You must be at least 18 years old or have graduated from high school. Placement tests prior to the start of the program will determine your level of English and eligibility. If you register for the English for Academic Purposes but do not have the minimum intermediate level required, you will be transferred to the Vancouver English Experience Program which runs at the same time.
